Ian Salisbury
Sussex CCC, Surrey CCC and England

I began playing cricket when I was 14 years old, from that day on my only dream was to play for England.

The journey for me started at Village club level, to Northants Youth Team, MCC Young Pro’s then to Sussex and on to Surrey.  My dream was fuelled even more by being selected for England U19’s and England ‘A’ touring sides.

In 1992 my dream came true in front of a packed house at Lord’s the very same ground where I had sold scorecards, pushed on covers and cleaned the pavilion windows during my MCC Young Pro days.  Playing in the same side as my childhood heroes Gooch, Gower, Lamb, Botham and Stewart was an added bonus to my big dream.

Helping to fulfil my dreams is where Dave English and the Bunbury’s step in.  Their charity work and help with the U 15’s festival is where dreams begin.  Just look at how many cricketers go on from the Bunbury festival to play for their country.

I wasn’t lucky enough to ever play in the festival so remember if you dream hard enough you can make it come true!

I would like to say a big thank you to Dave for also making it possible for me to play in his infamous Bunbury games which gave me a chance to meet some of my other heroes – Martin Johnson, Viv Richards, Eric Clapton, Bill Wyman and of course the great Dave English himself.

Many congrats to you ‘Loon’ and everyone at the Bunbury’s for making dreams come true.  Long may it continue!

Love

Ian, Emma and Anya
