Robert Empson

We have met some very exceptional people in our lives since our beloved Lucy lost her life in the Bali Bombings on 12 October 2002.  These people, along with family and close friends, have helped pull us through the agonising journey of grief that results from losing such a special daughter.

David, you are one such exceptional person and we feel humbled by what you did for us last Sunday to the benefit of Emma & Lucy Memorial Fund.  We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your determination, energy, dedication and compassion that you put unto the event, so successfully brought about with the generous support of Cereal Partners.

Through you we would also like to thank your special team of high profile cricketers and celebrities in giving up their precious time to entertain others and raise money for charitable organisations.  What a truly wonderful bunch of guys and girls they are.

When we arrived at Stanmore Cricket Club Sunday morning the buzzword was ‘Barry’!  We couldn’t believe what we were hearing.  Surely, this legendary Bee Gee couldn’t be coming to an event in memory of our Lucy and her dear friend Emma?  These two girls spent their lives dancing to the unique sound of this world famous group!  True to your word, Barry did come and we were overwhelmed by his appearance.  It was amazing to hear that he made the journey from Heathrow to Stanmore Cricket Club, following his flight from America.  For us and I am sure all people at the event it was the ‘icing on the cake’ following such a fantastic day.  Please pass on our sincere thanks to him for his tremendous kindness.  We will never forget what he did and what you, and your team, did for us that day.

Finally, from the daughter we lost so tragically to the daughter I met on Sunday….. will I ever forger being introduced to Amy who immediately offered her comfort to me.  For someone so young to be so compassionate tells me what an excellent job you and her mother are doing in bringing her up and the influence you have on her.  Unfortunately we weren’t lucky enough to catch your son – he was busy enjoying his cricket!

In closing, David, you are a truly remarkable man and we salute you for everything you do and for what you brought to Stanmore Cricket Club on Sunday 14 May.  It was uplifting to be in your company on Sunday and your support meant the world to us and to the enormous benefit of the Emma and Lucy Memorial Fund.

With our love

Robert and Sandra x
