The tousled haired troubador and heart throb returned to our ranks
at Ripley where it had all started in 1986.
‘Dave, its Dave Come and Play’ Dave, this is Dave I’ve

you can play them all’ and so he did.
Arrived with that engaging smile and opened with Ian Ward just before
the mighty Azha. Stroked a few through the covers, a few handshakes
all round and the promise of another appearance at Chelmsford. Sunday
August 5th, David Essex came to Essex to play against Ashwell.
He batted with Sir Vivan Richards and bowled against Richie Richardson.
It was just lovely to see an original member of the Eric Clapton
XI and honarary member of the Bunbury’s back in the fold.
