Seems an age since we stood
in the car park at Northwood C.C. after the M.C.C. game talking
about his future. ‘Norm’ was seventeen years old. “Norm’,
I’m telling you, you will play for England.” And sure
enough, he certainly did. With great distinction.
Under Mike Brearley’s astute captaincy at Middlesex C.C.C.
Norman flourished as a rapid opening bowler partnering the legendary
Wayne Daniel who showed him the way on and off the field! ‘Norm’
actually played in the very first Eric Clapton XI game at Ripley.
A tremendous fellow who has retained his youthful spirit in cricket
and in life. Great to have him back playing for the Bunburys in
2005.
