Good old Bickers! Seems to have been playing at the top level for
ages. Actually made his Surrey debut in 1986 and first appearance
for England in 1993.
Has won some of the highest accolades in the game including many
Surrey Championships, Surrey players’ Player of the Year in
1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000, and one of Wisden’s five Cricketers
of the Year in 2000.
Equals Surrey’s record wickets taken in the match and holds
the second best match return in Surrey’s history, behind Tony
Lock’s 16-83 v Kent CCC at Blackheath in 1956. I still think
he is England class. We always rated Bickers as a batsman. In fact
whilst playing for England Schools he opened the batting whilst
Thorpey was a quick bowler.
Good old Bickers finally made his Bunbury debut in the rain-swept
match against Albury last year. Great brother “Denzil”
and lovely missus “Lozza”.
