A real legend of the game from any era, the great Wasim Akram debuted
for us at Alconbury. It was Naynesh Desai who brought along Wasa
and Azha (Mohammed Azharuddin already a Bunbury).
Captaining him from mid-off was a revelation, to watch him swing
the ball in and away at speed, then to field like a panther was
quite honestly, mind blowing. On that day he charmed the crowds,
met Mr Major and then batted beautifully for “The Buns”.
It was a pleasure to hear his carefully considered opinions on Channel
Four TV during the World Cup, always backing the players with positive
words of encouragement.
A real dignified and charismatic captain of Pakistan and Bunbury
all rounder - “The Wizard of Wasim”! Great support at
Finchley and Macca's day.
